Black Lives Matter!

Persuasive Letter to the next President preserving the rights of African Americans in every way possible.

Dear Mr./Madam President,

Imagine it 2:00 am and mother gets a phone call saying that her child has just been shot. This is reality for many mothers who have lost their family members in the hands of police officers. Some fear that their children will be the next victims. Equality is something everybody deserves. Nobody should be bullied because of their race or skin color. English Philosopher John Locke once said: “All mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions”. Equality is something everybody deserves it doesn’t matter what skin color they have or what race they are.

The recent shootings of unarmed black teens has created chaos in cities all across the nation, especially on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. The shooting of Michael Brown caused chaos on the streets of Ferguson after grand jury chose not to “indict” officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown. Soon violence and protests swallowed the city. The Black Community is slowly being looked down upon like it had in the 1960’s. They are being deprived of basic rights and has been proved over and over again by the recent shooting of these unarmed black teens. This act is called “dehumanization” meaning black people not being treated like humans, as much as the people are resisting this act it is continuing as it is.

Equality is one of the biggest issues America has been facing for the past 240 years. The biggest problem between Police Departments and the Black Community is distrust.The only reason Police shot these teens because they feared that they would attack and they didn’t trust the victim’s word. Mr./Madam President I urge you to sign legislation that gives police officers extra training so they can do what is correct for the situation. Reality TV Star Kim Kardashian West said:  “We must peacefully use the power of our voices and the strength of our numbers to demand changes in the judicial system so that brutality doesn't ever go unpunished”.

Racial Injustice dates back to the 1600’s and 1700’s when slavery was still in effect. They wouldn’t be treated as humans, and they would be sold as property. Mr./Madam President you must prevent this from happening again. We must not repeat the mistakes our ancestors made. There is a reason the Declaration of Independence said this: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. That is why our ancestors preserved these rights with the Bill of Rights so they are not taken away or misused.

Mr./Madam President I say this with the utmost respect, I want you to make this you top priority has the next President of the United States of America. Focus on what the people want listen to what they want, do something that will benefit, not only the Black Community, but the country has a whole. I hope you enjoy your years as President and be the change. like Gandhi said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world".
