Dear Mr. or Mrs. President,

Police brutality has been a problem for a while now- which is the problem. Officers are abusing their authority and harming people physically and/or mentally, and a lot of them are black. There have been several cases where an officer was being extremely violent/mean to people when it was not necessary. This is very wrong; these people do not deserve what is being given to them. Innocent people have been killed too many times in cases where the officer didn’t have a strong enough reason. It’s okay though, because they’re a figure of authority. I think this is still going on, because officers aren’t being disciplined the right way. People tend to push these things away because the person killed or harmed wasn’t very important to them, or the story wasn’t big in the news, etc. This isn’t being viewed like the big issue it is, and people are focusing on other things. It is also getting worse, because children have been hurt or killed in these situations, by adults and people who are supposed to protect them. Valerie Bell’s son, Sean Bell, was killed by officers who THOUGHT someone had a gun. Police brutality has to end; something needs to be done about it.
