Poverty in U.S.A

Is poverty worse ? This might answer your question.

Dear future Mr. or Ms. President,

I wish people that live a lavish life could understand the pain of poverty and hear their suffering brothers and sisters, and do something about it. But, as it is, there is still much suffering. So I implore you Mr/Mrs.President please do something for their suffering.

In an article written by the U.S. Census Bureau, it tells just how bad poverty is in America. “In 2014, 47 million people lived in Poverty USA. That means the poverty rate for 2014 was 15%”(US Census Bureau). With numbers like that we can be assured that we need a president that can at least stop this increasing number. Poverty is extreme in America and something needs to be done about this and I hope that this person is you.

Poverty has been increasing, pain is getting worse for America. In the same article I talked about above it says that “the 2014 poverty rate was 2.3 percentage points higher than in 2007, the year before the 2008 recession” (U.S. Census Bureau). This means that this contrary is going downhill, and fast. Mr/Mrs. President if you do not do anything to help them, this contrary is going to economically fail.

I do not understand why this has number not been dramatically dropped. At least the child poverty level should be under 5% but an article written by Talk Poverty says it's at 19.7% (talkpoverty.org). This is sad, depressing and overall should not be. We may not be the most poor country in the world but that does not mean we should start now or get worse.

Poverty is a painful stressful life. In an article written by National Poverty Center it says that “in 2011 extreme poverty in the United States, meaning households living on less than $2 per day before government benefits, was double 1996 levels at 1.5 million households, including 2.8 million children”. (National Poverty Center, February 2012).This is not enough money to raise a family or even to have a healthy lifestyle. Whatever president I write this to I hope you are the one to be remembered as the one who made America poverty-less.

Some would say that for decades, the U.S. Census Bureau has reported that over 30 million Americans were living in “poverty,” but the bureau’s definition of poverty differs widely from that held by most Americans and that the overwhelming majority of the poor have air conditioning, cable TV, and a host of other modern amenities. They are well housed, have an adequate and reasonably steady supply of food, and have met their other basic needs, including medical care (heritage.org) . But in reality these people are struggling to make ends meet and eventually the costs will add up and a price will need to be paid especially if the individual has kids, I personally know that with kids cost will quickly add up even with well paid parents.

I am convinced that we need to take action against poverty especially the president of these United States, and not only take action but end it.

Sincerely, Connor Wiggins
