LGBTQ+

The LGBTQ+ community is a widely mistreated and misunderstood community.

Dear Future President,

The LGBTQ+ community is a widely misunderstood and mistreated community. There are many things as a community that we can do to help them, but, there are certain things that we need YOU to do.

Before we can go into how to help them, we need to know why people hate them. 1) People think that it is unnatural and “God” did not make them this way. 2) People fear what they do not understand, and they definitely don’t understand LGBTQ+. 3) They are “mentally ill”, and therefore dangerous. 4) They are a bad influence on children. 5) If gays decide to adopt, it will be hard on the child.

These are just some of the main reasons, but there are also many other minor reasons for why people hate gays. 1) If “God” made all people, then he did, in fact make them that way. 2) It is a biological component to fear what you do not know… something in your DNA. Thousands of years ago, when humans were beginning to become smart, we had to survive on our own. Without this biological component (to fear what we don’t know/understand) our species would have died out, because they did not fear the unknown, such as predators, fire, storms, etc. This component in our DNA has not gone away, and it is still present. Now you may be thinking “Well if it’s in our DNA, then we can’t help it. DURP.” Yes, you may not be able to help it, but the least you can do is try to understand. If you try to understand, then the “fear” will start to go away. 3) THEY ARE NOT MENTALLY ILL. This just flat out angers me. They have a different opinion on things, such as a mate, or how they identify themselves on a gender level, does not make them ill. NOTHING is wrong with their brain, if anything; the brain that is messed up is the person that is against them. 4) People of the LGBTQ+ community are not a bad influence on children. Kids will turn out the way they turn out. Their gay friend can’t force them to think like them, nor can they force them to become transgender, or become bisexual. It doesn’t happen that way. It just doesn’t. I have friends that are gay, one of my cousins is going through the process of becoming a man, and another cousin is a lesbian. I am not gay, nor am I a trans, and I have a lot of LGBTQ+ influences. 5) A child with adoptive parents that are gay is no different than a child that has adoptive parents that are straight. The child will still wonder who is biological parents are, where they are, and have almost exactly the same questions in their mind.

There are many ways to help the LGBTQ+ community; because they really do need your help has president. Now, you can’t stop people from hating them, nor can you stop the LGBTQ+ community from being who they are. While I was in Philadelphia, shortly after America legalized gay marriage, a man stopped us and told us his story. He was gay, and his boss had somehow found this out. Then his boss fired him, and he could do nothing about it because it is not against the law. He put it this way; you can be married on Monday, out of a job on Tuesday, and Homeless Wednesday. This is a serious problem. Making it illegal to fire someone because of their sexuality can solve this problem. If you don’t, then there will most likely be more situation just like this one, and the victims of this situation will not have the right to do anything about it, and there will be more homeless people in the U.S, and I’m pretty sure you don’t want that. Bullying is another serious problem. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community suffer from bullying both physically and verbally. This can cause too much stress on the child, and they may be afraid to even think about going to school the next day. Some even think about committing suicide, and a few actually do. Now, I understand that you cannot stop the cruelty amongst children, but you can spread awareness and let these children know that they are not alone. Make commercials and posters, use billboards, do rallies, and make sure that everyone knows about the severity of the problem that we are facing with bullying.

As you can see, the LGBTQ+ community is a widely misunderstood and mistreated community. There are certain steps as a country that we can take in order to help them, but there are steps that you need to take as president. Please, help this division of people get through their daily lives without having to worry about what tomorrow may bring. They really do need your help.

Sincerely,

Avery
