One Hour of Homework is Enough!

Kids have too much homework.Read on to see how it hurts us.

Dear Future President,

Almost every day, I go to school and get bombarded with stacks of homework .

Getting more than an hour of homework is excessive and I think 8 hours of school is enough(seven hours of school and one hour of homework). The National Parent Teacher Association suggests about 10 minutes of homework per grade level. For example, first graders get 10 minutes of homework, second graders get 20 minutes of homework, third graders get half an hour of homework, and so on. But the average seventh grader, who is supposed to get about 1 1/6 hours of homework a night, gets 2 ½ hours of homework! Instead of doing more work when I get home, I want to play with my friends, spend time with my family, or just relax after a long day. A Stanford researcher found that students spending too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, and may even isolate themselves from society.

I think that you, as the Future President, should not allow schools to hand out more than the 10 minute per grade homework guidelines.

Sincerely,

Julia
