LGBTQ+ Equality

In my image, I painted on my skeleton, the same one every single one of us has, and depicted the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender flags in the shape of hearts. This shows that we are happier with equality of everyone. Bring the equality from the inside, out. And if we do build a wall, build it to shield from the hate, not the people.

An analysis on the LGBTQ+ community; how poorly they have been treated, and recently have been receiving new rights yet denying other rights at the same time. How can we fix this for the sake of equality?

Dear Mr. or Mrs. President,

There are so many LGBTQ+ people in the world, and I can bet you know at least one person or even heard of one person that is a part of this community. They are being denied even basic rights and inequality still exists.. Yes I understand future president, you’ve said many of times you are against gay marriage, but marriage isn’t their only wish. In a Tribune article, Illinois state Rep. Greg Harris stated, “In reality, this is a facade of equality, and it only really applies if you’re a mainstream, respectable and privileged gay or lesbian person. There are still many battles to be won to achieve some semblance of equality for the entire LGBT community, all of which are just as important as marriage; they just tend not to get anywhere near the same amount of media attention or casual discussion.” Well said, and the struggle for LGBT+ is real. “People struggle with a number of other institutional barriers to their freedoms on a daily basis. The same can be said for bisexual, transgender and gender nonconforming people, all of whom encounter similar but unique stigma and civil rights struggles, which sometimes overlap with homophobia.” With that, you need to realize LGBT+ are human beings and they want to be happy. They want the right to be themselves. They don’t want to be told they can’t use the bathroom or travel because they are transgender or be fired from a job because they are gay or a lesbian or bisexual or transgender. Stop the discrimination, stop the hate, these members of the LGBTQ+ community are even killing themselves because even at a young age when they find out who they really are, they decide to kill themselves because of bullying.. it’s 2016 and you should not be a homophobic bigot playing the role model of young children and teens who will feel they are not good enough to be themselves and decide there’s nothing to live for so they take their own life.

Thank you,

Olivia
