Torture/ Enhanced Interrogation

"There's nothing that we can do to undo what happened, but there's a lot that we can do to help individuals rebuild their lives,"

Dear Madame/Mr. President:

For my whole life I have heard of people getting tortured or getting enhanced interrogation. Awhile ago in 2001, “According to CIA records, Abu Zubaydah provided information on “al- Qa’ida activities, plans, capabilities, and relationships,” in addition to information on its leadership structure, including personalities, decision-making processes, training, and tactics.” I’m not sure if I agree with interrogation or torture because it can harm someone’s brain to where their brain will never be the same ever again. Therefore, this is why I think you should focus on torture/ enhanced interrogation.

In my opinion, I believe that torture/ enhanced interrogation is not acceptable because, there is a phrase that says, “You have the right to remain silent” which means that you don’t have to tell or say anything. Torture matters to the nation because there are so many people in our world that are being interrogated or harassed just because we as a nation want to get information out of them. An example of torture is dogs being given mild jolts of electricity that they can’t avoid. Then the dogs are put into a divided box where they could escape more zaps by jumping to the other side. They don’t. These dogs had been conditioned to accept their fate. I don’t think that this should be allowed because it is hurting animals plus it’s also hurting people's’ futures.

I think that you as the future president should work to make it to where torture/ enhanced interrogation is illegal in any state. We can do this by asking questions to these prisoners without starving them or beating them. Furthermore, I still don’t agree with torture and enhanced interrogation for the reason that everyone should be treated equally.

Sincerely,

Kellie H.
