Women are Equal
This letter discusses the matter that people should treat women the way they want to be treated - equally and respected.
Dear Future President,
"Boys rule, girls drool", a common saying that I constantly heard when I was a little girl. Ever since a young age, girls have been known to be "less" than boys. If you look back in history, boys were always favored in families - being able to do the work and be like their fathers. Women were often not allowed to be in the workforce and were meant to work in the domestic sphere. This is something that seems to have stayed with us, but why has it?
All women should be treated equal to men. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. As of now, women are paid 79 cents to a man's dollar. Why should we be be paid less than men? How is this acceptable? Women should have the right to be paid equal to men. We say that we have progressed from history and many look back on history disappointed, but have we? Has the respect and roles of women changed? Or have they stayed the same? These are questions that you need to ask yourself and should focus on in your upcoming years as the president.
Women deserve the right to be respected and treated the same as men. An educated, capable women can perform the same responsibilities and tasks as an educated, capable man. So why does this continue to be an issue? I believe that working together and focusing on this problem, we can make an environment where every gender feels not only equal, but valued.
Sincerely,
Bella Tracy
