College Debt

Should college be affordable for able for students?

Dear Future President,

In the United States over 23% of people can’t afford to go to college. Have you ever thought that some of those people want to attend? Going to college is very expensive, especially for students who have parents that can’t support them. Students have to get a 4.0 GPA and high SAT and ACT scores to get scholarships and practically have college handed to them. Students with low income and bad credit get college grants and student loans. Last but not least, students in middle class have to pay for everything. For example, students pay college tuition, room and board, books and school supplies, equipment and room materials, fees, and travel and miscellaneous expenses. Don’t get me wrong! Students can get student loans, but that is not the best way to pay for college. People in their 30s and 40s are still paying off college dept. 41% of people have postponed buying a house or apartment. 25% have had to postpone moving out of their parents’ homes. More than 40% of Americans who use student loans are not making payments or behind.
