Dear Future President,

Many of people’s privacy is being compromised from the increase of Social Media, making people craved to get the next big trend. One of the biggest trends now is Drones. DJI, GoPro, Yuneec and many more drone manufacturers have made this trend more affordable with fairly high image quality. Many people have made some amazing videos with the footage they get from their drones. Other people have been using these drones to spy on other people. They have been doing this to get a picture of something or someone they want to see what they are up to. Another thing people are doing is crashing into buildings and hurting people or damaging property during the process. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) need to be stricter on some laws about who can and can’t fly a drone by having a drone lesson to learn the laws and regulations as well as how to carefully operate the drone.

First off, paparazzi and the media are using drones to get aerial photos and videos of celebrities. They are using drones that are readily available for anyone to pick up in a store and get flying right then and there. They can takes photo of anyone that they would like as long as they are outside. “..., the image of paparazzi-manned drones flying around Beverly Hills backyards, snapping photos of unsuspecting celebrities in their swimsuits,...” (Newsweek). Paparazzi are using these drones as very useful tools for their line of business and disrupt celebrities privacy by using a drone and not knowing who is using the drone. The paparazzi are “trespassing” with their drones and the paparazzi don’t even know it. Even with the drone hovering over them, the celebrities, they can’t really do much about it except report it to the police. They are taking pictures for their own use for a magazine or something and the pilot of the drone doesn’t realize that it is illegal to do that and will keep doing it until they’re caught doing it.

In addition, drone pilots do not know how to properly operate a drone so the can damage property that could affect people around them. A drone pilot who looks to be a professional pilot, flies the drone straight into a building. People crash all the time from drones and even I have crashed a drone because I was too reckless and have never flown a drone before. Many people have also made the same mistake as I did. “The Drone careens off a nearby building and plummets toward traffic. A driver sees the Drone’s impending impact, swerves violently (but too late) to avoid the drone’s smash into the windshield and the car crashes into two unsuspecting pedestrians on the sidewalk.” (General Reference Center GOLD) . A pilot can be reckless and make a big problem by flying the drone because of their stupidity on the laws and how to operate. Someone can buy a drone, say they are professional, and destroy property because they think it’s straightforward on how to fly.

Finally, with similarity to the paparazzi, anyone who can afford a drone can do anything want with it and they don’t care about what they’re doing because they don’t know the laws attached to flying a drone. Many people do not know the laws that drones have because they think that they can just start doing whatever the heck they want when they get the drone they picked up from Best Buy for a few hundred dollars “...just about anyone with a few hundred bucks fly them around our neighborhoods recording video of anyone in our backyards and doing who-knows-what with them,...” (Joseph Lorenzo Hall) People who can pick up a cheap drone for a few hundred bucks can spy on anyone that they want to just to see what they are doing, but don’t realise that they are breaking the law. The quote that Joseph Lorenzo Hall said made a good valid point saying that anyone can fly a drone and not know what is illegal to do and not illegal to do.

The new President needs to make the airspace safer by making the FAA enforce stricter laws about who can and can’t fly a drone by having a Drone lesson to learn the laws and regulations as well as how to carefully operate the drone. The FAA is semi-enforcing these laws which means that people can stretch what they think is legal and can argue to the Police that what they were doing is legal and can get away with whatever they were doing. The FAA needs to make people who own drones or even operate a drone have a license and take the flying lessons as well as a course on the rules and regulations so they can fly safely and responsibly so they don´t give drones and drone pilots a bad name so we can continue flying without a bad name.
