Compromise

Regardless of political party, my only hope for the next executive of office is more bipartisanship.

Dear Next President,

Regardless of political party, of campaign hard lines, of sworn promises, my only hope for the next executive of office is more bipartisanship. This or the lack of is not solely the ability or responsibility of the president. It’s impossible to accomplish anything without the Senate and Congress. But, the point is, it’s better to get one’s foot in the door and to take the first step on the route to change than to wait for the tables to turn entirely.

We need to stop trying to block everything the other party does and instead endeavor to forge compromises of goals and ideas. Part of this is the modern attitude towards compromises. Many times, with the modern information driven society, people will find that which was given up in the compromise and declare that the entire thing has been undermined. Instead of focussing on what has been gained they see naught but what has been lost.

America needs a reminder about compromise and how it’s been a core of our history since the writing of our current constitution.

Sincerely,

Holly P.
