School lunches for students with specialized diets

Public schools need alternatives for students with specialized diets.

My name is Carrie. Currently, I am in the tenth grade and until last year, I was a vegetarian. Getting enough to eat was never a problem for me. There was always bread or rice for me to eat at lunch time. Last year that just wasn't enough anymore because I hit a major growth spurt. Suddenly, I noticed just how little options I really had. I could never be one of those people who brings a lunch to school every day because it was way too expensive for me, and the few times that I could afford to bring lunch to school, I forgot my food at home. Eventually, I had to start eating meat again.

This is something that I still regret to this day, and I don't want anyone else to have to make a decision like this. I'm not just speaking for vegetarians, I'm speaking for vegans and pescatarians also. I speak for anyone with a specialized diet. This is a huge problem because on a few occasions I have felt lightheaded and dizzy when I don't get to eat a proper meal.

I hope you consider my letter and keep all of the hungry vegetarians in mind by ensuring that school lunch menus have a variety of choices to fit all dietary needs.
