Discrimination

Discrimination is a epidemic in the Untied States and I believe education is key to ending this issue.

Dear future president,

My name is Camden Daniels. I'm in 9th grade and go to Saline High School in Saline, Michigan.

"The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex." This is the formal definition of discrimination, and unfortunelty, discrimination  happens way to often. When Lauren Rovin, a Spanish teacher at Saline High School was in 7th grade, her Social Studies teacher told her she could not join the Mountin Bike Team just because she was a girl. She was so upset by his discrimation, she ended up quitting moution biking.

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear". This quote was from Martin Luther King Jr, who dedacated his life to ending discrimation. This is a quote everyone should live by and education should be based on. I believe anti-discrimination education should be a course mandatory in all levels of education. Divercity education is as important as any English, Math, or Science class,  Diversity Educaiton teaches the value of love for all people. "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek". This is a quote made by President Obama saying that if we dont take action and do somthing about this discrimination, nothiing will change and things may get worse.

This is a growing epidemic Nearly two-thirds of students reported that they felt unsafe in school because of their sexual orientation, and more than a third felt unsafe because of their gender expression, according to http://www.bsa-discrimination.org. It's a huge problem when kids feel unsafe to go to school and get an education. This has gone way too far when it interups kids learning.

We should all know how important it is to stand up to discrimation. In Miss Rovin's case, it changed her life forever.  People need to realize that we have a huge problem in this world and the next president needs to do the right thing and address the issue.
