Running Out of Time

 Global Warming

Dear Mr. or Mrs. President,

I write this letter today to inform our next president the dangers of global warming, specifically pollution. I strongly believe you should make it your primary effort to eliminate pollution from this great country. I say this because I don't want our future children and grandchildren to live in a desert wasteland due to our carelessness. The first thing I suggest for eliminating pollution is for these giant oil companies around the United States to not use fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and many other non-renewable resources. According to USA TODAY nearly 44% of the US population lives in areas where air pollution is dangerously high. A big argument has occurred between scientists theorizing whether or not asthma is caused by air pollution or not. But there is still non sufficient amount of information to say that this claim is true or not according from KQED News website.

Now onto another serious topic I would like to touch on and to bring to your attention is water pollution and how it's affecting our ozone layer and animals. 80% of pollution to a marine environment is caused by what's going on, on the land. The reason for that is because many vehicles will often drop small amounts of oil onto roads and parking lots that will eventually accumulate and leak into the ocean, causing organisms in the ocean to parish. In the year 1975 National Academy of sciences estimated that 14 billion pounds of garbage was dumped in the ocean. Today's scientists have estimated over 1 million seabirds die per year and over 100,000 sea mammals.  If that was 1975, what must it be today? According to National Geographic, "8 million tons of plastic alone is dumped into the world's oceans every year."

Global warming is caused by having too much CO2 in the atmosphere. This is caused by many factories letting out sometimes black or grey smoke. This smoke contains very dangerous amounts of CO2. Many celebrities have even tried to help out this cause from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Pharrell Williams; multiple celebrities have contributed not only by just by speaking out but taking action as well. Brad Pitt for instance helped rebuild some areas of New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. His charity also helped construct new homes around the area.

One other topic I would like your attention to be brought upon is pollution in the our ocean. Like I said in my third paragraph as cars drive past or park near the ocean oil from the person's car will leak and eventually accumulate and leak into the ocean. But this is very small compared to many other major problems that are oceans are facing. Oil spills have occurred over the years. The biggest oil spill to ever occur was deep-water horizon. Lots of amounts of oil spilled into the ocean, causing months of clean up, and a devastating amount of damage to sea life. Years ago Dawn made a commercial called “saving Lives” it was about wildlife experts rescuing sea mammals such as ducks, penguins, and sea lions. They rescued them from oils spills that were very dangerous to their health. So they nursed the animals back to health and sent back into their natural habitat. I hope you take my ideas into consideration and possibly make it a reality. Thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,

Will
