Gun Control

Gun violence is a problem in our country. Innocent people are being murdered and they have the right to live their lives as long as everyone else.

Dear President Elect,

Innocent people are injured or killed and children are brought up in fear of guns.Thousands of people are dying from guns. There have been 49,839 gun incidents in 2016 so far, and 594 of them were kids under twelve! This is really scary.

A survey by the Government Accountability Office found that “nearly two-thirds of U.S. schools hold some form of “active-shooter” drills to teach kids and teachers how to react in the event that an armed intruder enters the school.” This teaches kids to be wary of guns, and you would think that that is a good thing but what choose to be afraid of being shot, when you don’t have to be.

This matters to me because I am afraid of guns and what they can do in a matter of moments. That is why I ask for you to put restrictions in place so that people won’t be murdered and we won’t have to live in fear of guns. Innocent people shouldn’t lose their lives and we shouldn’t have to fear something that shouldn’t be a threat to us.

Thank you for your time,

Sophia Orlando

NYC Lab Middle School

Lab students have been painfully subjected to three debates where they searched for policy talk. Four and a half hours later.. Now, our students will have the chance to speak about an issue of importance and possibly make a recommendation for improvement.
