Education is for Everybody

College tuition is keeping people from being able to go to the college they want or even a college at all.

Dear Next President:

About 70% of Americans don’t have a college degree. In today's world college is important and crucial to our future. It can be where we can find out who they are and what they want to do. It is a known fact that a lot of the well paying jobs require a college education and sometimes degrees, places like Lubrizol or Apple. College can be really expensive, sometimes too expensive for certain people. As president of the United States this may not be the first thing on your mind but it’s still important. We must put aside our differences because the only way we can fix this is together. We could help give more kids the education they need. Shape the minds of our next generation and how they contribute to the world.

According to the College Board, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2015–2016 school year was $32,405 at private colleges, $9,410 for state residents at public colleges, and $23,893 for out-of-state residents attending public universities. This is a lot of money which does not include food and general necessities such as clothes and textbooks. A lot of people don’t have enough to pay for those colleges especially the ivy league schools which are a lot more expensive and they usually cost around sixty thousand dollars for room and board. A lot of people might just say take out a student loan plus financial aid you’ll be fine. Usually the student loans don’t actually cover all of it and some people don’t qualify for financial aid even if they do need it.

What if students do get to college by taking out a student loan. What happens after college, they leave from college. They have to find a job, make money and find a place to live. And because of the high cost of colleges they still have to pay of their student loans. The average amount of time that people take to pay back their student loans is ten years. Maybe longer if they are having trouble finding a good job or supporting themselves. We can take example from a lot of the countries, some of these countries are Europe, places like Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. If you’re a citizen than you can go to university for free because all the schools or supported by the government and their economy is thriving.

If you’re the president of the United States the goal is always to fix issues or try to get rid of things that trouble America and it’s people. College is an important part of America because it’s not only to help the get a good education but so they can succeed in life. Figure out what they want to do and who they are. Learn how to live away from their parents and be independant. We don’t only help the people going into college but the United States because if the next generation succeeds then so does the country.

Sincerely, Laura
