Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration is causing problems for the United States.

Dear Future President,

Imagine a world where everyone who lived in America was a legal citizen. A world where no one needed to be deported, where taxes were less, and our borders were closed. This is what it could be like if we sent all the illegal immigrants back to their home country. Why do illegals need to go? Illegal immigrants send money back to Mexico, receive more services than they pay for in taxes, and dangerously open our borders up.

Illegal immigrants will cross the border, work here illegally, then send the money back to Mexico. “One of Mexico's largest revenue streams (after exports and oil sales) consists of money sent home by legal immigrants and illegal aliens working in the U.S... This is a massive transfer of wealth from America - essentially from America's displaced working poor - to Mexico." (illegal)This means that America is losing money letting illegals work here and take jobs that local legal citizens could do on their own. “Foreign-born residents in the U.S. sent $54.2 billion in remittances abroad in 2014. Mexico, China, India, and the Philippines received the most money.”(GAO: U.S.) If we would close up our borders and make immigrants enter the United States legally, we would be able to tax them (since they would have to become a U.S. citizen) and we wouldn't be losing $54.2 billion (in a year!) to other countries.

Another reason illegals should go back is because they receive more services than they pay for in taxes. “Illegal aliens have cost billions of taxpayer-funded dollars for medical services... Immigration is a net drain on the economy.”(By Making)Immigrants are taking in and using more services than the average american, but not paying their fare share back. “The average immigrant household consumes 33 percent more cash welfare, 57 percent more food assistance, and 44 percent more Medicaid dollars than the average native household.”(@SecretsBedard) If they're not here legally, the government can't see exactly where the taxes (that some of the illegals pay for) are coming from, and they can't tax them properly. This is a problem when immigrants are using welfare, food assistance, and Medicaid.

Lastly, we need to close up our borders. With so many immigrants spilling over, its becoming more dangerous to the citizen living here. “Immigration and Customs Enforcement admits that in 2013, it released 36,007 convicted criminal aliens awaiting deportation outcomes, including immigrants responsible for homicides, sexual assaults, kidnapping, and other serious crimes.”(8 Reasons) The more people crossing the border without being checked, the more room for crimes like these that could have been avoided. We also need to worry about the diseases crossing the border. “ A health official told The Blaze, “There is really no hard stop at the border, and we have no idea health-wise what diseases are coming across.””(8 Reasons) If we would close our borders, we could be avoiding dangerous disease outbreaks, illegal criminals convicting serious crimes on our side of the border, and much more.

In conclusion, we need to send illegal immigrants back because they send money back to their home country, receive more services than they pay for in taxes, and dangerously open our borders up. Thank you for reading!

Sincerely, Sarah George
