Over the years in the United States more and more trouble with guns has occurred. According to everytownresearch.org America’s gun murder rate is 25 times more than the average of other developed countries. The numbers are only increasing. I do not think that should be ignored and laws should be made about guns. Something that can seem as small as one law can save millions of innocent lives.

My first reasoning for new laws about gun safety is that I believe it would decrease the suicide numbers saving even more lives. You're probably thinking that gun laws would likely not affect the suicide numbers but there is evidence. Harvard.edu says that 85 percent of suicides are done using a gun. If guns didn’t make suicide so easy people would have more time to think and suicide numbers would go down saving even more lives. Homicide is not the only cause of death by guns.

Some people may argue that the use of guns is entertaining and hunting or target shooting is an activity that may relieve stress. Although this could be true, it can also be seen as an unhealthy form of entertainment. Going out into the habitats of animals and killing them for fun should not be legal in America. According to idausa.org more than 200 million animals are killed per year by hunters. Many of that population are likely to have babies that will have no parent to care for them which could also result in death. To add on to that animalrights.about.com states that in the US and Canada 1000 people are accidentally shot per year by hunters. Hunting is proven to be a dangerous thing not only to innocent animals, but to people as well.

Another important reason that guns should be banned is that it is unsafe to have in the houses. The Washington Post states that approximately 242 million people in America own guns. Not all guns are hidden or locked away safely and put everyone living in to house at risk. Even though some people properly lock away their guns properly, many people don’t and that is a risk that should not be taken. If a kid not knowing the dangers of guns, which is not uncommon gets hold of the gun it could cost their life.

It can be argued that guns can be used for safety inside of homes to protect against intruders, but it can also put your entire family at risk. Although this is true you can guarantee full safety with security systems without putting anybody in the house at risk. Although good security systems can be expensive, it is a wise investment and it offers full security that a gun can not offer.
