Reasonable Gun Policy Oregon

Reasonable Gun Policy

I believe that both sides of the gun policy debates are wrong in their arguments. There should be an equal agreement between the two that restricts guns while staying true to America's Second Amendment.

Dear Next President,

I write to you about an issue that not only affects me, but also the constitutional rights of every other American citizen. In our current day and age, there's an abundance of individuals that oppose America's Second Amendment, which enables us the right to bear arms. These individuals, as well as I, believe the presence of guns is directly connected to the increased amount of gun violence within the U.S. However, what separates them from myself, is their radical approach to the situation with the banning of civilian owned firearms. Where as I believe that there are possible precautions that can be taken that will reduce gun violence, while keeping the Second Amendment intact.

The current debates on America’s gun laws are very polarized, and neither side is choosing to budge. One side believes in increased gun laws or simply no firearms at all, while the other side is trying to preserve the Second amendment. I believe there is an equilibrium between these two arguments. Actions can be taken that will satisfy both sides. Actions such as having mandatory background checks on any gun outlet. This background check would work against people such as, citizens with criminal backgrounds, men and women on the no fly list, etc. A law such as this would replace the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which according to the Council on Foreign Relations Backgrounders “Is a Violence Prevention Act, which mandated background checks for all unlicensed persons purchasing a firearm from a federally licensed dealer.” But this was only limited to federally licensed dealers and not domestic purchases. In my opinion this would greatly reduce the amount of firearms in the hand of criminals.

This is a major issue that affects many and as being the next president the responsibility of resolving it falls on you.Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Sincerely,

Cameron
