Abortion Rights

I think we should ban Abortion unless absolutely necessary.

Dear Future President,

My name is Katie, and I am a student in New Mexico. I am here to talk about an issue that I feel really strongly about: Abortion. I care about this topic so much because abortion is the killing of an innocent human being. That baby didn't plan on being made and it doesn't have a choice. The choice is up to the mother, which I know is part of our freedom rights, but what about the baby's freedom? I want to learn what you will do about abortion laws and how you would enforce it.

Abortion. Just the word sounds awful. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. You're taking the life of innocent human beings who can’t stand up for themselves. Some people don't mean to get pregnant, and when they do, they freak out and eliminate the baby. 21% of all U.S. pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion. Less than 1% of abortions are because of rape. The main reason women get abortions is inadequate finances or they're not ready for the responsibility. If you're choosing to have sexual intercourse, you should always know that there's a possibility of getting pregnant. When you have sexual intercourse, you're accepting responsibility for anything that might happen. The abortion rate for 2012 was 13.2 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years, and the abortion ratio was 210 abortions per 1,000 live births. According to http://www.nrlc.org/, there have been 58,586,256 Total abortions since 1973. That number is too big.

I could go on forever, but I need to end this letter somewhere, so lastly, fetuses feel pain during the abortion procedure. According to pro con.org, Kanwaljeet J. S. Anand, MBBS, DPhil, Professor of Pediatrics, Anesthesiology and Neurobiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, "If the fetus is beyond 20 weeks of gestation, I would assume that there would be pain caused to the fetus. And I believe it will be severe and excruciating pain." Bernard N. Nathanson, MD, the late abortion doctor who renounced his earlier work and became a pro-life activist, stated that when an abortion is performed on a 12-week-old fetus, "We see in an ultrasound image the child’s mouth open in a silent scream... This is the silent scream of a child threatened imminently with extinction."

How will you handle abortion? What laws would you put out? How could you enforce abortion laws? These are a few questions I have for you. Thank you for considering this issue. I know you will do great in office as President of the United States.

Sincerely,

Katie G.
