College Tuition $
The price of college tuition compared to the average income is insane to see and needs to be changed.
Letter to the President
Dear Mr/Mrs Pres. I hope this letter finds you in good health, for this is a tough problem. The cost of a college tuition is too high for the people who need to learn, to further our future. Our world depends on the people who make it, our successors and they won’t be able to do that nearly as well without a grander scale of education, which we all want but some can’t afford. The price of college used to be half the average yearly income but nowadays the price of learning is as much or more than most families income. Somehow, we need to make college a better opportunity for everyone.
What I quickly found was that the total 2015-2016 cost of attending Harvard College without financial aid is $45,278 for tuition and $60,659 for tuition, room, board and fees combined, which is insane inflammation rates because according to the US Census Bureau In 1970, Harvard cost $4,070, which was less than half of the median family income, then $9,870. Harvard still was a great school in 1970 living off half of median income, yet now harvard can only survive on 60,000 dollars, inflammation is a very strong case of how the cost of education has skyrocketed so insanely. Inflammation needs to be lowered, people living on minimum wage won’t be able to survive.
After some continued research I learned that the federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. However the minimum wage was $1.45 per hour in 1970, the yearly income of someone working on minimum wage is 15,000 dollars, that is a quarter of the cost of a harvard tuition. The cost of education compared to the money earned by a american citizen is disappointing and needs to change and people will help this change. Their are more people that can’t afford these schools than those who can and the people who can’t want to be able to.
In the end the best way a change can be made is if pushed by a leader, and that leader will be you, we need this change to be pushed through for not our sakes but our new generations sake. Lowering inflammation and increasing the worth of money is the best first step towards a more affordable college tuition. Mr/Mrs President, you can push a great change on human education, and the people who want it too will help support it, we need to make the insane cost of college more affordable.
