Lower the Voting Age!

In this letter, a concerned 8th grader talks about the voting age, and how the voting age could change.

Dear future President,

I come to you as an eighth grader concerned about the voting age. There have been protests that involve “lowering the voting age” and “people who can be summoned to court should be able to vote”. I personally think the voting age should be lowered to 16. NYRA.org states that “Youth have the political knowledge to vote intelligently”, and I think this statement is correct. In fact, a recent study shows that youth mature faster over the years. In the 1900’s, people matured at around 15, in the 2000’s about 13, and today about 12.

People who are allowed to drive and able to be summoned to court should be able to vote. I think the voting age should be lowered to 16. So I urge you, future President, to lower the voting age, or more people will protest.

Sincerely,

Skylar M
