Allowing Immigration
This letter is about why our next president should allow immigration.
30 August, 2016
Dear Future President,
We have so many problems going on in the U.S. some are minor but the one I would like you to focus on is immigration. I think that the president should allow immigration because immigrants fill in necessary jobs. There are 11.2 million immigrants in the U.S. and there are 318.9 million people in the U.S. According to cis.org “There are 93 work occupations in which 20% or more of the workers are immigrants.” We live in an economy where workers move to where they pay you more and they cause lower unemployment. Immigrants work for those lower paying jobs because for them any money is better than having nothing. We can see the economy as a National Economy because of all of the immigrants and americans working in the U.S.
This issue also matters to the U.S. because immigration supports impoverished people in other countries when workers send money back to their families. “Migrants working in the United States sent a staggering $120 billion back to their struggling families last year, it was revealed today.” This was revealed on January 31, 2013 on dailymail.co.uk. This hits me hard because there are families that aren’t as fortunate as I am to be with my family. Being with my family over the holidays is something I love and cherish completely. The thought of hundreds of thousands of people not being able to be with their whole family because of country borders is something I could never dream of.
Although, others in the world think that immigrants bring bad things into the country such as; drugs, a higher cost in healthcare, education, etc. However, instead of stopping immigration, we should be stopping crime. On the website, nccivitas.org the feds say, “2.2 million kilograms of cocaine and 11.6 kilograms of marijuana has been smuggled from Mexico border” this was back in 2005.” We should be focusing on stopping that because it is causing more of the crime. We shouldn’t base all of the drugs in the U.S. on the immigrants because not all immigrants are drug smugglers.
I would like to propose to the president that he/she should do everything and anything in his/her power to have an open border. I believe it would be effective because I believe everyone has the right to live a better life than what they’re born into. The website, time.com says that, “Instead of redoubling our efforts to curtail immigration, we should return to the historic American policy of open borders - admitting everyone eager to come build a better life for themselves.” I feel like it should be implemented as soon as possible or hopefully by the end of the year. It should be announced when it is an official and signed off by everyone and in an orderly way. A desired outcome would be just me being happy that everyone gets to be with their loved ones for the holidays and just enjoying their families all united.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Gaspar
