GMO Labels
GMO labels are the labels that food producers put on their products to specify it as a food with GMO's. GMO labels should be mandatory among food processing companies.
Dear Future president,
GMO labels are an important part of foods in our society for many reasons. Some people may have deathly allergies to some GMO's, but may not be able to prevent a fatal event due to the lack of GMO labels on packaging. This lethal scenario could be evaded simply by a label on cartons, bags, or cups of food stating, "This product contains GMO's." All people would like to know what goes into their bodies. Say someone is on an organic diet - how would they know a food product has GMO's in it without a proper label? Science has still not proven that GMO's are completely safe to eat, even though there have been no deaths associated with genetically modified organisms just yet. The majority of the population (85%) say that foods should have GMO labels. Their arguments include,
"consumers have a right to know what is in their food." (ISideWith.com).
and
"I trust the science of responsible food engineering but I don't trust the motives of the food companies selling them." (ISideWith.com)
In conclusion, it should be mandatory for food producers to label their genetically modified food with GMO labels.
Sincerely,
Jake P.
