A look at the abortion issue that creates controversy in our world.

Dear President,

From 1933 to 1945 approximately six million Jewish people were ruthlessly slaughtered at the hands of Nazi Germany. This period has become known as the Jewish Holocaust and is remembered and mourned even today. But what if I was to tell you that there is a similar Holocaust going on right now, where over 53 million people have been silently murdered? You are probably familiar with this by a different name, though— abortion.

In America, approximately 1.2 million abortions are performed per year. From its legalization in 1973 to 2011, there have been 53 million babies lost to abortion. By eight weeks gestation, babies are able to suck their thumbs, respond to sound, recoil from pain, have fingerprints, and evidence is building that they even dream. By this point, all major organs are functional. By twenty-one weeks, it is possible for a fetus to survive outside of the womb due to medical advancements. In 2012, 1.3% of abortions occurred after this point.

A big argument pro-abortion activists use is that victims who have been impregnated by rape or incest need abortion available to them. This can be argued, though I do not agree, but the fact is only 1% of abortions are due to rape and incest. Also, 85% of women who become pregnant due to violence choose not to abort. The other 99% of abortions done are solely for the mother’s convenience. They say they aren’t financially stable enough, they aren’t “ready” for the responsibility, or they just don’t want their lives to change. Within eight weeks of their abortions, 55% of women expressed guilt of their decision. The question of financial stability is one often used by pro-abortion activists, however many successful individuals, such as Simone Biles and Celine Dion, were born into such conditions.

I could throw statistics at you all day, but it is ultimately up to you to decide to help the millions of babies who cannot stand up for themselves. You yourself are a parent, so I am sure you can imagine the horror if your child’s life had been snuffed out before he/she even saw the sun. I implore you, President, to take a stand against this mass infanticide going on in our nation. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Mary
