Abortion

Dear Next President,                                                                                                                                          Hello! My name is Amanda and it’s been exciting anticipating your election. Congratulations on your victory, and I wish you success being in this position. I’m writing to you on an issue that is important to me. Abortion has been a big controversy during presidential debates. A woman’s health is her personal business, therefore, she should have the right to chose what she does to her body. No other man, church, or doctor should be able to command her in what to do with the fetus forming inside of her. There are many cases in which the pregnant woman have valid reasons to perform an abortion. For example, if they are raped, in poverty, have bad health, or simply don’t want to have a child at that point in their lives, they are not in good shape to be a mother. The term “pro life” is extremely derogatory. People who are “pro choice” aren’t “pro death”, they are simply supportive of women’s rights and her ability to make a choice. As one source stated, “89-92% of all abortions happen during the first trimester, prior to the 13th week of gestation,” (abort73.com). That being said, abortion isn’t murdering babies, it is the “mere removal of undifferentiated cell tissue or that the developing embryo is simply a part of the mother’s body,” (abort73.com). This case would be different if the baby was killed after being born, or even further along into the pregnancy, however, only .01 percent of all abortions are performed in the third trimester (foxnews.com). As stated by Fox News, “Of the 1.6 million abortions performed in the U.S. each year, 91 percent are performed during the first trimester. Having an abortion is not a decision that women take lightly either. They don’t want to have one done, but sometimes it’s for the best. If a woman knows they are unable to give the baby a wonderful life, they might decide to have an abortion. Also, if the woman has a physical problem with their health, abortion would be a good option. What if a woman was raped? Would she be expected to have the baby and go through pregnancy, birth, and then raising a child for her entire life? If abortion becomes illegal again, it’s not going to stop it from happening. Women will simply begin conducting it on their own, causing dangers to themselves. When abortion was illegal in the past, most procedures were done by coat hangers which is dangerous and unhealthy. I strongly believe the outcome of abortion being legalized has had a positive effect on society and if it were to be illegal again, there would be a negative outcome. We have come so far in legalizing this and allowing women to chose, that we would be going back in time if we prohibited it again. Please take this into consideration. I know abortion is a taboo subject and people are divided on the topic, but look at the facts and consider allowing women to make their own decisions about their personal health and lives. Thank you for your time and once again congratulations on your victory. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing what you overcome during your presidency.

Sincerely,

Amanda
