Animal Cruelty

Animal Cruelty is a big problem in the United States and needs to be stopped.

Dear future president of the United States,

Imagine a world where most animals are treated unfairly, not given food, and being beaten. Imagine where you wouldn’t have heartbreaking situations watching animals not being cared for. All if owners were responsible enough to care for their pets and give them the needs to be healthy. In your policies you should provide protection from animal abuse, dog fighting and puppy mills.

These days, people shouldn’t being having to worry about animals being abused all the time. They should be able to take responsibility for their animals that they wanted to have. “There are approximately 70 million pet dogs and 74.1 cats in the U.S. who are assaulted per minute.”(Animal Cruelty Facts and Stats)There are laws that go along with people abusing animals such as you have to pay $1,000 and if it's bad enough then 1 year in jail. Also if the abuse has gone on for a while you can get up to a $5000 fine and 5 years in jail. I believe that dogs are no different that human and that they should have the same consequences as a human. A dog is kinda like your child, so if the consequences were the same the person would serve 180 days to 99 years or life in Texas. I believe this would be the best idea or law for people to stop animal abuse around the U.S.

Dog fighting is also done a lot and is a big problem in the U.S. which is under the category of animal abuse. Dog fighting is not good because it causes dogs to be seriously injured or killed during the fight. “Each year approximately 250,000 dogs were placed in fighting pits nationwide.” (Dog fighting National Statistics) Another example of when dog fighting occurred was with NFL star Michael Vick. He was only imprisoned for 23 months for injuring dogs which personally I believe is dumb. He could have killed dogs and seriously injured them doing that. There is no difference from a dog and a human he should be charged just as if he were abusing a human. Right now people serve 1 to 5 years for dog fighting and i believe we need to make this longer. People should be charged as long as if they were abusing a person. “Each year nearly 10,000 dogs die in illegal dog fighting.” ( Animal Abuse Is A People Problem) This is a problem around the world that needs to be stopped.

Puppy Mills are another big contributor to animal abuse in the United States.Puppy Mills are used to breed and sale puppies for much profit. Although it's legal if licensed by the, but state the dogs are still not being closely taken care of. How would you know if a dogs doing bad if you're taking care of hundreds? I believe puppy mills are bad because the dogs are not closely being taken care of.“Puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations that put greater priority on profits than the health of the puppies. Many dogs are plagued with illnesses like kidney or heart disease as a result of the conditions they’re kept in.” (11 of Facts About Animal Cruelty) With this I believe Puppy Mills should be illegal because the puppies are not getting the right care.

To Conclude, I believe that animal abuse is a big problem in the United States. There should be more depth in the laws to make people serve a longer time for abuse of animals. Animals are just as humans and should be treated no different. To Finalize, in your policies you should provide more protection for animal abuse, dog fighting, and puppy mills.

Sincerely,

Austin M.
