There is a large issue in the United States of America about racial inequality that needs to be fixed. One minority group affected by racial inequality in this country are African Americans. Valley Stream North High School has a pretty diverse student population in comparison to Franklin Square and all of New York state. When looking at student enrollment, Valley Stream North High School has 45.5% white students and 22% black students. Franklin Square has 65.2% white students and 7.5% black students. New York state has 46.5% white students and 18.1% black students.(http://public-schools.startclass.com). These statistics show that there is a big gap between races in our neighborhoods and school districts. Perhaps many minority families cannot live in areas such as Malverne, Valley Stream and Franklin Square because of financial and other reasons. Then their kids cannot attend these schools. These gaps could cause racial tensions and inequalities as the students grow up into adults, looking for the same opportunities as other people. If there are better education and counseling services for minority children and adults in low economic status communities, this would create better opportunities for employment, potentially eliminating racial inequality and segregated housing.

Minority groups often live in poverty. In the year 2000, higher percent of blacks and Hispanics lived in poverty more than whites in that year. Also in 2003, 11 percent of blacks were unemployed and weren't able to make a lot of money while only 7 percent of Hispanics, and under 5 percent for whites to say,( Torr 1) "Higher rates of poverty and unemployment among minorities are linked to a variety of other racial controversies, including segregation in housing, racism in the criminal justice system, and racial disparities in health care” (Torr 1). Poverty affects people from living a good life and getting a decent job. Corruption is happening due to racial inequality. Many minorities do not have a chance to get a good job or buy nice house because they live in poverty. Because of this poverty, they may not get accepted for a lot of jobs and then cannot live in nicer areas to break the poverty cycle. A solution to this would be creating better educational and counseling services for minority children and adults that live in low economic status communities. Thus making more opportunities for poor minority families.

Many people do not realize or want to agree that racial inequality is damaging our society. Racial inequality is also damaging our schools. DELT is an organization that is helping minority students and families of the community who are getting heavily impacted by racial inequality (Fond 1). This organization is affecting many people’s lives in a positive way. DELT needed help so they asked local organizations such as Ebony Vision, the Boys & Girls club, UW-Extention 4-H, the Fond du Lac Area United Way and the Fond du Lac police Department are all helping DELT to accomplish their goal (Fond 1). Many people are inspired by the DELT and by its members. There is a lot of racial inequality in the US but a lot of it is in schools. Students are being influenced by adults that being racist is ok, but it is not. If there are better counseling services and organizations for minority children and adults there would be less poverty and racial inequality.

Many people in America feel that racial inequality is exaggerated. A study shows that American blacks household income grew only 15% compared to the 6% of American white families ( Miller 1 ). And also the number of black owned businesses increased a lot in the 1990’s ( Miller 1 ). Many black people feel that they can't get anywhere in life because white racism is slowing them down but the is not true. Blacks have the same equal opportunities as white peoples since they can live in the same areas and work in the same places ( Miller 2 ). This is a counter claim because this shows how blacks can have the same equal status because they can live in the same neighborhood as whites and go to the same schools as white children. This shows that not all people think that racial inequality is a big issue.

All in all, future president of the United States there are two different sides to this, but i hope you do something to solve this issue.
