Killers of Earth
Environmental destruction needs to stop!
Dear Future President,
What will humans do when there isn’t life left on the planet earth? If people continue to destroy earth’s environment, there will soon be no more forests and animals left to balance this world. Keeping the natural lush green life of this planet is important, and here are reasons why.
Environmental destruction is a big problem that needs to be prevented because it is causing many species of animals to go extinct, and is tearing up important resources people need. The destruction of environment is causing extinction because animals are forced to leave their demolished homes to find better shelter. They often are put in danger of other predators and natural forces that they would normally be protected from if they still had a habitat.“Rain forests once covered 14% of earth, and now only cover a mere 6%.(savetheamazon.com)” This shows how fast we are destroying the environment, and that soon, we may have nothing left.
Another reason environmental destruction is a big issue in need of solving, is because it is tearing up resources that people need to survive. Pollution is an example of ways humans are killing the environment. Things such as oil spills, gas leaks, and waste are dirtying important resources like clean water and air, and medicine. “Three-thousand plants have been identified as active against cancer cells,” The U.S. National Cancer Institute states, “and seventy percent of these plants are found in the rainforest.(savetheamazon.org)” Because humans are destroying forests at such a fast rate, the plants needed by many may be taken too.
However important it may be to prevent this destruction of resources and animal species, it would be close to impossible to completely stop pollution because ways are needed to dispose of waste. When trees are chopped down, for example, the wood is used by many people. It is understood that destruction is necessary for growth, but there are ways to save the environment, and to help stop pollution. “In 2010 Americans generated garbage at a rate of 4.43 pounds per person per day and recycled garbage at a rate of only 34 percent, leaving 165 million tons of trash destined for landfills.(sfgate.com)” If people wasted less, it would make a huge difference, and would save environments from being wiped away to make space for our garbage.
Over all, solutions to environmental destruction should be made clear, and easy to remember, that way, people all over the world, not just in America, can help save planet earth.
