Energy Development and Renewable Energy
America should focus on becoming energy independent from the rest of the world and use renewable energy.
Dear President,
Our country has a serious problem we need to deal with. The country needs to convert to renewable energy sources before it’s too late.
Americans along living the coasts are experiencing major flooding due to raised water levels and rain. This news report by CNN states that last summer Louisiana got hit with some major flooding. The flooding was greater than or equivalent to the Hurricane Sandy disaster that occurred four years prior.
Its also no secret that fossil fuels will eventually run out, but it may happen sooner than you think. An article from www.eia.gov says, “In 2015, the United States consumed a total of 7.08 billion barrels of petroleum products, an average of about 19.4 million barrels per day.” What happens when we run out of a reliable source of energy and are left to scramble to get the power back. That's why we need to act now and be prepared for when the time does come.
I am 16 and over the years I’ve heard my parents complaining about the price of gas and the price of electricity going up. If there was a way to produce energy forever, then the prices won’t have to go up. Scientists can research and develop ways to make everything and even our homes have ways of making energy.
Some might say “Renewable resources are expensive.” That may be partly true but over the past decade the cost of wind turbines and other renewable resources have gone down. This is due partly because of research and partly because demand. And other people might say that “Our oil supply is far from running out.” Well that may be true but we can start developing better and more efficient form of renewable energy. As a bonus to all this, having lots of different facilities that are producing energy will create jobs for more people.
I think a solution for all of this is to cut some, maybe 1-5, percent off the funding for the army, we could put that into research and development of new cars, houses, and less expensive forms of energy so that everyone has the option to have their carbon footprint be clean.
I really do believe that making America run completely on renewable energy is possible. Of course it’s going to take some time but it really is possible. Soon this country can be pollution free and running on renewable energy.
