The U.S. Needs to Accept more Syrian Refugees

The United States needs to increase the amount of Syrian refugees accepted into the country.

Dear Future President,

We need to accept more Syrian Refugees into the U.S. Since March of 2011 over 250,000 Syrians have died due to the brutal war taking place there. The war started in 2011 when a group of high school students wrote political graffiti on a school building and were punished for their action. Because of this war Syrians have little access to their essential necessities and are in constant danger.

The U.S. has already accepted 12,000 Syrian refugees into the country. However, the government should be doing everything in their power to increase that number. These refugees are innocent people searching for a safe place to live. Because Of this war 70 % of Syria’s populations do not have acceptable drinking water within their reach. Many citizens are unable to meet their basic food needs and every 4 out of 5 Syrians live in poverty.

Although most of theses Refugees are innocent, some American citizens believe that Syrian Refugees pose a threat to our country and may be terrorists. While it is true that the man responsible for the not so long ago Paris attack came to the country by pretending to be a Refugee from Syria, that is only one fatal event caused by refugees. The number of Syrian refugees that caused no harm to our country is much greater than the number of harmful events caused by refugees. Also extensive screenings and background checks are done for all Syrians before they may enter America, so the likelihood of them causing mischief is unlikely.

More than 4.5 million Syrians have fled their home country. That may seem like a large number, but 6.6 million Syrians are still displaced internally within the country. The United Nations says that they will need $3.2 billion to help the Syrians. By encouraging the American citizens to accept Syrian Refugees, you, Future President can help raise the money. With your encouragement, we can help save the lives of these innocent victims of war.

So, Future President, it is up to you to help these refugees searching for safety. We need to accept more Syrian Refugees into our country and provide a safe place for them to live. If you sit back and do nothing then innocent Syrians will continue to live in fear and in danger that will likely lead to their death. If you encourage the citizens of America to accept the refugees and help provide funds towards their safety then the Syrians may get the chance to safely live the long lives they were meant to and America will be more culturally diverse. So, Future President, how will you help these Syrian Refugees.

Sincerely,

Jordan
