Syrian Refugee Crisis

The U.S. government needs to take measures against the poor conditions of the refugees from Syria who were forced to leave their country.

Dear Future President,

We need to accept more Syrian refugees in our country. The Syrian refugee crisis is becoming a worldwide problem. The government needs to take measures against the poor conditions of the refugees from Syria who were forced to leave their country. Many people need our help. Innocent civilian men, women, and children are trapped in such violent conditions. Though I understand that there are many consequences of giving refuge to the people of Syria, the U.S government should give the people a chance to live as peaceful as possible. We should always give a helping hand to those innocent people that are trapped in the middle of war.

The main root of this issue started in Syria. “The Syrian Civil War is an ongoing multi-sided armed conflict in Syria in which international interventions have taken place. The war grew out of the unrest of the 2011 Arab Spring and escalated to armed conflict after President Bashar al-Assad's government violently repressed protests calling for his removal.” Even though the protesters wanted peaceful resolutions the unrest almost immediately became more intense because of the government's violent response. Like all wars, many innocent civilian Syrians were harmed. “More than five years after it began, the war has killed over 250,000 people, half of whom are believed to be civilians.” Not only that, Their cities were surrounded by many violent attacks and human rights are being violated.

The war left many people dead and even left more people fleeing for their lives. Thats where we come in. Many Syrians have been struggling to live inside their country but many are also fleeing to another countries. “Thousands of Syrians flee their country every day. They often decide to finally escape after seeing their neighborhoods bombed or family members killed.” I know that no one deserves to live in such horrible and violent conditions. These are just some of the many reasons why the government should be open to give refuge to those people who seek new homes.

Some people believe deeply that they will be a threat to our country. I know that letting foreigners from a currently violent country is a serious risk. Islamist terrorists are determined to infiltrate refugee flows to enter the West and appear to already have done so in Europe. “At least one terrorist responsible for the Paris attacks is suspected of having entered Europe through refugee flows.” Some people fear some terrorist will attack our country so much, they are willing to abandon innocent people for harm. More than half of those refugees are children. At their young ages, why do they have to suffer so much for something they have no part in and probably to innocent to know what’s really happening?

So future president, what are you going to do? The help of our country will be essential for the survival of Syrian civilians. Many innocent men, women, and children might die if we don't give them refuge. There are no innocent bystanders. Are you willing to be responsible for the deaths of so many? I’m not. Many of these people are innocent victims of war. If we fail to give our help many of these people might die, and we would have been responsible for it.

Sincerely,

Mary G.
