Our diets are killing the earth and ourselves

Dear Mr/Madam President Imagine a world where everybody is overweight and we can’t do some simple things in life without help. This is what will happen if we don’t start changing our diets now . The most important issue facing the world is our health. Mr/Madam president you must help fix the way we eat before it’s too late. The leading cause of death in america is heart disease, which can be caused by unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking. Our high consumption of animal products is also one of the leading causes of global warming, yes it even causes more pollution than the greenhouse effect. Heart disease is caused by unhealthy diets.“many overweight and obese people have diets high in fat, particularly saturated fat. A person who carries the bulk of their body fat around their stomach is at greater risk of heart disease than someone whose body fat tends to settle around their bottom, hips and thighs.” People do need some fats, but many people take that for granted and eat too much of the wrong fats.”Everyone’s body needs fats. However, when a person overindulges or eats too much of the wrong fats, health problems can occur. While all fat intake should be limited in your diet, the American Heart Association reports that reducing your intake of saturated fats and trans fats can make a significant reduction in your risk for heart disease. Choose foods with unsaturated fats, such as monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats and reduce the amount of butter and shortening in your diet and replacing them with healthier oils such as olive or canola. Limiting your saturated fat intake to less than 7 grams daily and eating a maximum of 1 gram of trans fat a day are also recommended. Cows are highly toxic to the earth they release more carbon dioxide than anything. The demand for cows meat is so high that there are way too many cows on this earth. That’s right, forget the carbon dioxide coming from our cars or power plants, animal food production now causes greater pollution than the greenhouse effect. But if Americans could just cut out red meat consumption or just cut back on it, because just by doing this you are doing wonders for yourself and the environment. Americans eat more meat per person than anyone else on earth. At 200 pounds of meat per person per year, our high meat consumption is hurting our national health. Hundreds of clinical studies in the past several decades show that consumption of meat and dairy products, especially at the high levels seen in this country, can cause cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other illnesses. Thus, Americans have twice the obesity rate, twice the diabetes rate, and nearly three times the cancer rate as people in the rest of the world. Eating loads of meat isn’t the only reason that people develop these diseases, but it’s a major factor. Many people say that meat is a great source of protein or that meat contains nutrients and that there is only a very weak correlation with cancer but there are so many other foods with better health benefits with same amount of protein like, quinoa, tofu, lentils, beans and many more, also it’s still a risk to eat something that has a connection to cancer because eating meat increases your chances of getting it. The best choice is to just cut out meat altogether, it is better for the environment and for you. As the president you must use your first 100 days to fix the way we eat cause you can’t have a successful country without any people. Work cited: Http://www.facebook.com/maraktyler.
