Help To End The High Costs Of College

I think that the costs of college are too high and something needs to be done to change this. Student debt needs to end now.

Dear Presidential Candidate,

Everyone has hopes of going to college one day and studying their chosen profession. The thought of going to school to study something you want to do and to prepare yourself for life is very exciting. But with the costs of college steadily rising every year, more and more students have had to borrow large quantities of money. How are any students supposed to pay off that much debt?

College is one of the most important times in life. It helps to prepare its students for the rest of their lives. College is a place for students to learn and prepare themselves for a real job, so the only major worries a student should have should be exams and trying to remember everything they have learned. However, since the cost of college is so expensive, the struggle of paying for college has worsened each year. As of now, the average cost of one year of college is 10,000 dollars or more. One student cannot be expected to pay that much money for one year of college. So since students have had to borrow this much money, the result is debt. This is often the result for most college students, and although this might teach them how to manage their money and get a job, no one should assume a college student has this much money to spend on education. When the cost of an education is this high, college is not an option for most people. Only the rich can afford college. Something needs to be done about this.

A way to help resolve these problems is to stop the government from spending so much money on things that are not really needed. For example, the National Park Service said they spent 65,473 dollars to figure out what bugs do near a light bulb. This money could have been funded toward colleges instead. If it had been, students would not have to pay as much money. Also, if the government offered free help to students to earn more college credit, than students would have even less money to pay. If the government can help college students to not have as much debt, than the colleges in our country could have more successful graduates.

If some of these sorts of ideas were put to work and the cost of college was lowered, then students would not have to worry about huge amounts of debt on their shoulders that they have to pay off. They could just focus on their schoolwork and study. It would be a huge benefit for students, so I hope you take this matter seriously. Something needs to be done about this, so for the sake of all college and future college students, please take it upon yourself to solve this problem.

Thank you,
