Drinking Age - Lower it?

Drinking Age - Lower It? Dear Mister or Misses President, My name is Tommaso. I am an eighth grade student that attends a school in the suburbs of Cleveland. I would like to bring the legal drinking age to your attention. Many people die every day from drunk drivers. In fact, MAAD No More Victims found that a person is injured in a drunk driving crash every two minutes. Parents see their children die and get injured because of drunk driving. The legal drinking age should not be lowered because it exposes younger teenages to alcohol at an earlier age. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed on July 17, 1984 allowing all persons twenty one years old and up to drink. Many people’s families are getting harmed and they want to keep the age. If the law were to be changed, there will be more accidents and deaths. Lowering the legal drinking age is medically irresponsible. Consuming alcohol leads to addiction and medical problems. Drinking Age Pros and Cons says the young adults’ brain has not yet been fully developed. If alcohol finds its way into the human system and reaches the brain, it could lead to medical mishaps. The alcohol would affect the frontal lobes of the young adult’s brain. People could have memory loss and greater suicidal behaviors. Chances of death increase due to the amount of DUI crashes and accidents. You, as the leader of our country, should not lower the legal drinking age and seek help for those addicted to alcohol. With you helping thousands of people will be alcohol free and young adults will not be exposed to alcohol at a young age. People will get the help the need to stay away from this harmful and intoxicating liquid. I am against the legal drinking age being lowered, but some people disagree with me and believe the legal drinking age should be lowered. Drinking Age Pros and Cons say some groups of people believe that the law is largely ineffective and does not work on rebellious teens who want to get alcohol. If you set a stable legal age to drink and have strict boundaries, this will not happen. I care about this issue because I have experienced it with my friends and family and know how it feels to be in this type of situation. Hundreds of thousands of families are devastated each year because they received news that their family member has been injured or killed in a drunk driving accident. People love their family and never want them to be harmed. Imagine if your son or daughter or mom or dad got into a crash because they were drinking at a young age and were not mentally stable. This issue destroys families and leaves them restless. It breaks my heart to see families receive news that a relative has passed away due to drunkenness as a young citizen. Nothing would be able to fill the gap in that family's life. The legal drinking age is a big topic in America that has many people questioning what to do. Many citizens are pushing to have it lowered. The law should stay the same and not be lowered. You can ensure that by not lowering the legal drinking age and helping the people already addicted to alcohol. You as the next President have many jobs to do. You know what the right decision is on this issue. Thank you for listening to my point of view on whether the legal drinking age should be lowered or not. I look forward to having you as the next President and hope your term is excellent and our country prospers under you. Sincerely, Tommaso
