Gun Control Policies.

I am an eighth grader in a local school in Cleveland Ohio. Gun control is all a political, personal, and public issue. I am aware that people die everyday because of firearms but I also see it as personal because there was recently a shooting near my house. Think about it, if your child went walking down the street and they get blown away by a firearm, how would you feel? It would be terrifying and dreadful, this is the reason why guns should have more bans on them.

Dear Mister or Madam President,

People die everyday because of incidents involving a firearm, they are deadly and too dangerous to be left in the hand of everyday people. Chances of death and injury in public are high enough, but having a firearm would cause those chances to skyrocket by at least 500%. Not having a firearm in an environment would lower those chances for sure. In 2012, according to huffingtonpost.com, there has been only 258 reasonable defense homicides, whereas there was at least 8342 intentional murders involving firearms. I do understand that not all guns are legally purchased and people buy them via the Black Market, but there is financial agents looking into this. They are chopping down the amount of people selling and purchasing firearms. That isn't an overnight process but it will be effective the sooner it is put into motion.

Countless schools and public usage places such as restaurants and churches have been shot up within the past 15 years and those numbers keep increasing. Those numbers need to be cut down not raised. Students in schools have issues learning for fear of their lives, people can't eat in peace because they know their is a threat, and people in churches can't pray as hopefully or easily because they know something is out there and this needs to stop. Other developed countries have a significantly lower homicide and suicide rate because they have higher bans on firearms. America might be one of the most powerful countries in the world, but when it comes to gun control we are falling behind and that cannot be allowed to happen. The second amendment states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" which  means anyone who serves to protect and serve the free state has the right to bear arms, not everyone. We are not all soldiers trying to defend our country, we are people living in a country protected by responsible soldiers. Some say we need them to defend ourselves which I partially agree because there is sometimes we truly need them, but I promote hand to hand combat to defend ourselves, not firearms. So I urgently request you Mister or Madam President to increase gun control and take firearms out of the hands of those who don't need it.

Sincerely,

Mickey
