Homelessness

Homeless

October 26, 2016

Dear Mr/ Mrs. President:

There are over 600,000 homeless people just in the US. That’s just too many people that have no homes. We should build homes for the homeless. My name is Isabella, I am a 14 year old 8th grader who has many concerns about what is happening in our communities. I believe everyone deserves to have a place they can call home.

There are many dangers of having people out on the street. They have been entering into schools and sleeping there. The students often find them on campus, causing the schools to go into lockdown. People have many thought passing them on the street. People feel unsafe, and always looking at them as people who are hopeless. Thinking the reason why they lost their homes was because they are always high and drunk, but that's not always the case. Just because they aren’t like you or me, and because they don’t have a house, doesn't mean that makes them less of a person. Would you want someone to treat you like that? I know I wouldn’t want someone to treat me that way.

12% of the world is unemployed. Building these houses won’t just give the homeless a home it will also give some of that 12% a job by hiring them to help build the houses. It may be minimum wage, but it’s better than not getting money at all. I know you as the President may not think that spending the money is worth it, but this money will be going towards a person and their families, maybe there kids college tuition. You have a family right? Well, if you couldn’t provide for your family wouldn’t you want to? Doing this would help people like that.

Most of the homeless are veterans. When I say most I mean 55%, thats 6.6% of the population. I don’t think I need to take a lot of time explaining why we need to give them homes. They did protect us, including yourself and your family. Those who protected us deserves to have a house that protects them from horrid weather and illnesses.

Everyone deserves to have a place to call home. So let’s get the dangers off of the street, give those who protected us a home, give some of that 12% a job and build houses for the homeless. Thank you for your time Mr/Mrs. President.

Yes, it will cost money, but this money will be going towards another fund. Don't you think the money should go towards a house that can benefit a person and their family, instead of another thing that won't be as useful.

Sincerely,

Isabella D.
