Poverty in America

Poverty needs to addressed as it affects not only adults but children as well.

Dear Mister or Madam President:

My name is Rosalie. I believe that something needs to be done with poverty in America. No one should ever have to live this way and I understand that this is an issue that happens in life, but my goal is to help people in poverty. It would be great to help with the items they need to live the life that they deserve. So many families are at risk of diseases that can or will lead to death, but I would hope that there is some way to make sure that this doesn’t happen to people.

So many people think that the people who are poor are responsible for their situation thinking that they did this to themselves and that all they do is drugs and other harmful practices. However, that is not always the case. There are other different causes of poverty. This includes poverty as a result of earthquakes, floods, or serious illness that is not their fault at all. This can happen anywhere and to anyone and it’s horrible. People's homes are wrecked with them losing everything.

Another concern about this is how it affects the children and women. About 13 million children live in poverty in the U.S. and 9.7% of the elderly live in poverty while 37% are women and children in poverty. Children deserve an education and even though they are in this situation, they deserve to get the education. No matter how much money you make in your life, you deserve to have an equal chance for a job or school. In conclusion, I hope that the situation in life of those who live in poverty can be changed and they get to live healthy life and have a bright future.

Sincerely,

Rosalie B (Sacramento, CA)
