Gun Control

One 17-year-old's view on gun control

Dear Mr. or Mrs. President,

My name is Bradley and I am seventeen years old, and a very large issue that hits me is gun control laws. I believe that gun control could be a major issue in the near future if we do not give it proper attention. One of the major issues being discussing is school shootings. School shootings have become a growing issue because of their recurrence. In order to counter this we as citizens need to wake up see that gun control would limit our ability to defend our lives.

Select few states allow students and teachers with a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit (CCW) to come onto campus. This has proven to be successful in having these select schools to a safer space. The students feel safer as well as the staff at these schools feel safer and more confident in dealing with a situation. By having this policy up the staff and students at these schools can protect themselves as well as others around them in the event of a school shooting.

Some may say that having more guns leads to more death. This is not the case because a gun is simply a tool nothing more. It’s a tool in which we use for our purposes. When on the news you hear of someone being shot everyone who already has this general hate for weapons always will say that “oh it’s the guns, we need to get rid of the guns”. Individuals who believes this never seems to understand that the gun is an inanimate object. It cannot be fired or operated by itself. So when a person is killed by a gun, they were actually killed by the person operating the weapon, whether it is a murderer or a cop who felt his life was in danger.

To get rid of guns would also go against our fundamental rights as Americans. We are allowed to have weapons to defend ourselves against any enemy foreign or domestic. If our gun laws get any more strict there will be other problems besides a higher crime rate. There will be rioting and other forms of anarchy towards the gun laws if they are too strict. I believe if the next president wants to make America better they should deal with the more complicated issues of this country not focus on who can have what gun and how much ammo can be in one clip. That is how I feel about this subject.
