Gun Control
It needs to be harder for people to get guns.
Gun control is one of the most controversial topics in this country. Some people want there to be very strict gun laws. Other people feel very strongly about the second amendment, and feel that everyone should be entitled to bear arms. I believe that everyone should have the right to bear arms as long as they are up to par with very thorough background checks and tests. Before a person can purchase and carry a weapon, they should be able to pass an extensive psychological exam, and they should have a clean criminal record. Most deadly shootings occur when people who are mentally unstable get their hands on a gun. This could be prevented if people who are buying guns have been proven to be psychologically stable by a medical professional. Another way that the wrong people can get their hands on guns is at gun shows. There are some gun shows that do not require a background check when a person is purchasing a gun. It should not be that easy for just anyone to get a weapon. There should be a law that requires all gun shows to have a background check and a psychological exam before a person may buy a firearm. I believe that this would greatly decrease the amount of shootings in our country, and that irresponsible and unstable people would have a much harder time getting a hold of such a dangerous weapon. These rules and regulations do not violate the second amendment. Anyone can still get a gun if they wish, as long as they follow the laws and are mentally sane. Making it harder for people to get firearms is one way to make this country a better and safer place. I challenge the next president to work hard to decrease the amount of deadly shootings in our country, and I hope that he or she does it in a way that respects the rights of the people.
