Drug Abuse is a Problem
10/31/16 Dear Next President, Have you ever had a relative die of drug abuse? Drugs may help people, but they can be a cause of death. While deadly drugs like heroin and cocaine are illegal, even some drugs that may help you can be addictive and cause death. We need to put more money and resources into fighting drug crimes. Two major drugs that are deadly are heroin and cocaine. Heroin causes about 2,000 deaths per year. Cocaine causes 2,200 deaths per year. New England has one of the biggest heroin problems. In many states Heroin is the most commonly cited drug among drug treatment admissions. Nicotine is a drug contained in cigarettes. When you smoke, you are taking in nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive drug. My grandfather was a smoker, and unfortunately he passed away. Smoking is a cause of about 480,000 deaths per year. My proposed solution for this problem is that we should be stricter on heroin and cocaine sales in the United States of America. I think you should have to be a least 21 years old to smoke. We should also limit the sales of cigars and cigarettes. In conclusion, drugs are bad for you and cause death; drugs can be addictive. Stay away from them! Sincerely, Dylan
