Gun Violence in our Country

Are you scared to step outside today in our modern world? Guns have been one of the most dreadful things in our country. Massacres have occurred all over the US in past years and are mostly caused by a terrorist or mentally ill person getting their hands on a gun. We need to stop and prevent this issue, before it gets out of hand, but still abide to the 2nd amendment.

Dear Next President:

Imagine a place, where parents can send their kids to school, shops, or movie theaters and not have to think or worry about their safety with all the modern day dangers. Our country has suffered with massacres and gun attacks every year, recently, and they seemed to be getting worse. After the September 11th attacks, we strengthened our airport security to make sure no one would be able to hurt, threaten or kill our citizens again with an airplane. However, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings and other similar type of attacks, like shootings at Virginia Tech University and Columbine High School, we still have not changed our country’s policies and laws on guns, to prevent similar types of massacres with guns.

One point I would like to make is that we need to make changes in gun safety, but still uphold the Second Amendment which states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This is important to the safety of our citizens, within the communities and families, because when a gun is found or placed in the wrong hands, whether they are mentally ill or a terrorist, it can threaten anyone’s life, innocent or not.

Another point I can add, is that the purchase of each gun should be recorded with a title for each gun like selling a car, so there is a record for that sale. This could prevent attacks like the Sandy Hook Elementary School or the Aurora, Colorado movie theater attack. These attacks consisted a mentally ill person that got their hands on a gun causing a huge massacre in the event. This is important to me and our world because if someone in a community or city has a gun that no one knows about and has not been recorded, they can easily cause a huge attack in that town or city, if they have the desire to do so.

One last point I would like to make, is that people who sell guns should have access to the terrorist watch list. This could prevent the terrorists who can get access to guns from sellers, like the terrorists who attacked in San Bernardino, California . This is important to our citizens safety throughout the United States because terrorist attacks can be very devastating to countries around the globe, and countries like ours need to prevent them as much as we can. We need to make America great again, by limiting gun use, but still abiding by the Second Amendment.

Sincerely,

AJ
