Homeless

Homelessness in the United States

Dear future president,

Please help the homeless in the winter months. In the United States, some cities can see temperatures below one degree. I think it is important to provide the homeless with shelters and/or warm clothing. When I vist big cities in the winter time, I feel sad when I see the cold homeless people that do not have a warm place to sleep at night.

On one single January day 564,708 people were experiencing homelessness according to The National Alliance to End Homelessness. That is too many people sleeping outside in the cold. The USA should have a goal to cut that number in half. Imagine if the country could work together to cut that number in half how many people would have warm places to sleep in the winter.

One idea to cut this number in half is to make more homeless shelters. One way we could do this is by setting laws so that every city has to have a homeless shelter. This way every homeless person could have a place to turn to if they needed somewhere to stay during the winter nights. Another idea is to make taxes higher and some of that tax money could go towards national homeless shelters and building more shelters in different cities.

In conclusion, the United States should find a way to stop homelessness. If we work together as a country I bet we could at least cut the number of homeless people on the streets in half. If we did cut that number in half then I believe that the United States would make a big difference in the lives of homeless people. I hope you consider the ideas above.

Best wishes,
