Letter To Next President

The drastic need for gun regulation.

Dear Future President,

Hello, as a current high school student, concerned about the future, I can’t help but fathom the thought of open opportunity to bear arms moving forward. As society continues to advance economically, technologically, and culturally, loose gun regulations have proved harmful and detrimental to the development and morality of our country. Supporting this, according to BBC News, “Some 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015…of all the murders in the US in 2012, 60% were by firearm compared with 31% in Canada, 18.2% in Australia, and just 10% in the UK.”

With the heavy impact of gun dangers used in mass shootings, riots, brutalities, attacks, etc. changes must be made in order to set forth and protect the future of this country and the citizens within. Although the foundation of America is built off of our extended freedoms and rights; including the second amendment, right to keep and bear arms; our country’s drastic development and growth has led to the need for regulations and limitations placed on the ever-so powerful second amendment rights. Constitutional rights are meant to be protected, supported, and encouraged in order to benefit society and the country as a whole, but what happens when our country’s safety is at stake? Changes must be made, in order to preserve our morality and overall protection.

Loose gun control is not only a threat but also negligence to such a powerful freedom, the right to bear arms. Our country’s abundant access to guns and weapons has proved harmful and threatening to the future of society. With loose gun control and regulation, weapon availability and accessibility increases, leaving room for masses to grab hold of such a threatening and powerful responsibility. With the help of government, changes can be made regarding gun control and the process in which weapon possession entails. In order to protect our second amendment right as well as the future of our country, alterations and regulations must be placed, promoting a more extensive, in-depth, and lengthy process when involving gun access and availability. With the support of the government and society, changes can be made to protect our constitutional rights as well as limiting unnecessary harm and threats that loose gun regulation withholds.

With public safety as priority, the future of our country should be held at a higher standard to the loose constitutional right that provokes endangerment. Ultimately, the future of our society is not on placing restrictions on gun possession, but rather gun accessibility. With such changes, the annually increasing death rate will slow to a halt, as gun accessibility is regulated and granted to those responsible and trusting.

Thank you for your time and patience, I hope with these ideas in mind you can work to better the future and safety of our country through changes regarding gun accessibility whilst respecting our second amendment rights.

Sincerely,

Lexi B.
