The Economy

Letters to the next president about jobs and the economy.

Dear Future President of the United States,

My name is Yenifer Diaz. I am a Senior at Brooklyn International High School. I am from the Dominican Republic and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I'm writing this letter to you because I want to talk to you about Jobs and the Economy. I believe that this is a big issue. I think a raise in pay can help all people in this country to recruit and retain talent, improve company brands and business. And I believe that you as a president can change this by implementing a nationwide minimum wage of at least $10.00 or 11.00 and also give work to those who need it.

I think you should fix minimum wage because the minimum wage right now is not a livable wage. The minimum wage is only 7.25 USD per hour. That's barely enough to support one person by themselves, let alone a family. It might be a good idea for increases in the standard of living for the poorest in our society and for those people that work in fast food such as Mcdonalds, Popeyes etc. According to the article "McDonald's announces new ways to help its workers," “Worker-groups want a $15-per-hour wage. They say they cannot survive on any pay less than that, even if they work a full 40 hours per week. On top of that, not all of them will get the raise. There are about 750,000 McDonald’s workers in the United States. Only about 90,000 of them will get the $1 raise. Those workers are at locations owned by McDonald’s itself.” This supports my claim because it shows that people feel that they are not getting paid enough for all the hours they put in. People feel like it not a fair minimal pay. Some people use these job as full time because that is the only job they qualify for, it is to cover rent or debt they have.

According to another article in Newsela, it says “Some politicians and people who fight for workers' rights see a $15 minimum wage as a way to cure the problems faced by poor people. They expect the higher wage will reduce poverty and spur the economy — the level of wealth and number of jobs a country has.” This supports my claim because it shows that there is still a politician that do believe that the minimum wage is not fair and also it will benefit the poor people in the U.S. this will help the U.S. to get all the poor people of a street and reduce the level.

According to the article in Newsela, it says “Minimum wage supporters say that workers are not the only ones who benefit. They say companies like Walmart and McDonald’s also do better when there is a minimum wage.” This supports my claims it shows the benefits side of how companies can be benefited to this also people that look for the job for the first time always start working on Mcdonald's, Target, Walmart .

The bigger Issue in the U.S. is Jobs & The Economy. People of the U.S. as I’ve proven feel like the minimum wage of jobs is not fair. And putting a solution to this can advantage the U.S. economy and the people of all classes (Low,Middle). It also helps the national budget. This can be solved by implementing a nationwide minimum of at least $10.00 or 11.00 and offer jobs to the poor or people that need it. It is clear Jobs & the Economy is a big problem that you need to address because as president it is your responsibility to see how well or poorly our economy is doing. And it will help the president from having the economy problem in the future and budget.

Sincerely,

Yenifer Diaz
