Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is one of the biggest problems in the world. It needs to be stopped before it gets out of hand. When the word slavery gets brought up, people immediately think of the selling of people that happened in the past. If you think about it, slavery happens to this day now; sex trafficking is the same thing as slavery. Women and children getting sold for sexual reasons is the modern term for slavery. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, usually for forced labor or the trading for sexual reasons.

According to the International Labour Organization, “ 20.9 million people all over the world are victims of human trafficking and forced labor. Of individuals, 22% are forced for sexual reasons, 68% for private labor, and 10% for state-imposed work, state military, or rebel armed forces. Human trafficking makes about 32 billion dollars a year.” Human trafficking is the 2nd largest revenue earnings in the world, soon going to be #1. Why? Because it the biggest money producer following drugs. This “industry” is producing so much money because people can be sold more than once, twice or even three times. Drugs are sold once and once it is gone it is gone. There are about 20 million slaves today that are being used for human trafficking. Many victims become romantically involved with someone who then forces or manipulates them into prostitution. Others are tricked in with false promises of a good job, such as modeling or dancing. Teenagers or children get into it because they are usually kicked out of their homes or they have run away needing money and getting tricked.

It can be helped to stop it by learning about it to help identify a victim. I think that the president should make everyone aware of this so people can learn and help this. The president should have people working for him/her trying to investigate it and try to stop it. There are also ways that people like me can help. We can donate money for the organization that helps fight to stop it or we can volunteer in an organization. It affects the world/country because more and more people are getting into human trafficking and it won’t stop until something gets done about it. The world will soon be overwhelmed with trafficking if it doesn’t get stopped.

Human trafficking needs ends soon because not only is it affecting the victims but it also affects the way they live for their rest of their lives.
