College Tuition

College tuition seriously needs to be reduced. College tuition needs to be lowered to reduce the amount of student debt. In May of 2013, 61,762 people were surveyed online via email. The survey results showed that the average length that it took for people to pay off their student debt was 21.1 years. A chart shows that in 2012, 0.6% of people owed $200,000+ in student debt.

Dear next President,

To get straight to my point, college tuition should be lowered. College tuition needs to be lowered for many reasons, including the obvious fact that many people don't have the money to attend college. College tuition needs to be lowered so people don’t go into years of student debt. College tuition needs to be lowered to reduce stress.

College tuition needs to be lowered due to the fact many people want to attend college, but cannot afford it. Most colleges cost around $40,000. According to The Juilliard School, tuition would cost $41,310. For a single room, it would cost $19,200, and a double room would cost $15,380. For books, supplies, and personal expenses would cost $3,440. So basically, if you lived in a double room, you would have to pay $60,130, every year.

College tuition needs to be lowered to reduce the amount of student debt. In May of 2013, 61,762 people were surveyed online via email. The survey results showed that the average length that it took for people to pay off their student debt was 21.1 years. The next president definitely needs to take that fact into consideration because this is turning out to be one of the biggest problems in the country. Bernie Sanders said, “We’re gonna deal with the issue of student debt. Which is just crushing millions of people in this country. And we do that in 2 ways. Number 1: We say that if you can refinance your home at 2 or 3%, you should not be paying 8 or 10% interest rates on your student debt”. A chart shows that in  2012, 0.6% of people owed $200,000+ in student debt.

College tuition needs to be lowered to reduce stress. As the Richmond Hypnosis Center states, “110 million people die every year as a direct result of stress. That is 7 people every 2 seconds.” If we can find a way to reduce student debt, we could possibly reduce stress. A girl named Katelyn Durante said, “In a way, by reducing stress, lives are being saved. Stress is a factor that can lead to self-harm or even suicide, so by eliminating the stress of how to pay for college, a life could be saved.” This is true because some people get stressed as a result of their student loans and they cannot handle all of the pressure.

Overall, these facts, and statistics should show the many reasons why college tuition needs to be lowered. One thing that should be remembered is, “ Every student should have the option to graduate from a public college or university in their state without taking on any student debt.” Finally, these statistics will show that we have a definite problem.

$1.26 trillion in total U.S. student loan debt

44.2 million Americans with student loan debt

Student loan delinquency rate of 11.1%

Average monthly student loan payment (for borrower aged 20 to 30 years): $351

Median monthly student loan payment (for borrower aged 20 to 30 years): $203

College tuition seriously needs to be reduced.

Sincerely,

Julian
