Saving Life on Earth

If we can protect the life in our environment, we can protect ourselves and make sure that life doesn't end on Earth. Pollution is taking over the world and most people don't care.

Dear Future President,

I am writing to you about the environment. While children make up 10% of the world’s population, over 40% of the global burden of disease falls on them. More than 3 million children under age five die annually from environmental factors. I think that we should do something to help out the environment because when we hurt the environment, we hurt ourselves. By using renewable energies like wind and solar power, we can cut down on pollution. We can drive less or use things that don't put out exhaust and instead walking or riding our bikes. We can recycle instead of filling the world with waste.

Renewable resources are equivalent of up to 100% of your electricity consumption will be generated by renewable power sources which do not contribute to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The more renewable energy we buy, the greener our electricity grid becomes. They are a clean source of energy that doesn't sent pollution in the air and could be used forever. Using renewable energy or green energy enables you to reduce the carbon dioxide that goes into the atmosphere because of the energy you use, which is known as your carbon footprint. This helps to reduce climate change.         We can drive less or use things that don't put out exhaust and instead walking or riding our bikes. Wide usage of oil and oil related products has resulted in massive air pollution. It is a major source of fuel that is used in vehicles. Due to the process of combustion, harmful gases like carbon dioxide are released when oil is burnt. Everyday around 19.7 million barrels of oil is consumed in United States alone. Oil is transported to other nations using pipelines or ships. Leakage in ships leads to oil spill which affects animals and plants that live inside or around the sea. When fossil fuels are burned, they release nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which contribute to the formation of smog and acid rain.

We can recycle instead of filling the world with more waste than it can handle. Solid waste material that ends up in landfills causes air pollution in the form of methane gas emissions. Recycling more waste reduces the amount of methane that escapes into the air. Recycling also reducing the production of virgin resources which process contributes to pollution. We also don't have to keep using the nonrenewable resources because when we recycle, we use them again. Over 40,000 trees could be saved if all morning newspapers in the United States were recycled for one day. Up to 150,000 trees could be saved if as few as 100,000 people put themselves on a Do Not Mail list to stop receiving junk mail. The more trees we have, the less carbon dioxide we will have and the more clean oxygen we will have.

So I think that we should help ourselves and the only way to do that is by saving the environment.
