Abortion
This shows my view on Abortion and what I think should be changed to make it less controversial.
Dear President,
My stance on abortion is much different from others. I am a 13 year old girl and I promise that if I became pregnant tomorrow I would not have an abortion. I would have the child and I would give it up for adoption. I believe that others should do this as well. I do not feel as if killing the child is necessary unless it could put your life in harms way. The baby's heartbeat begins at 6 weeks into the pregnancy, you can begin to hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks though. I believe that this labels the fetus as a living human. (http://www.enkivillage.com/when-does-a-fetus-have-a-heartbeat.html) Although I do not agree fully with abortion I do believe that women should be able to make decisions. Did you know half of the women that want an abortion have had one or more previously. One third of all americans have had an abortion by the age of 45. That means that 16% of american women have had multiple abortions. Over 50% of all abortions are performed on women under the age of 25.(studentsforlife.org) I can understand abortion at a young age because sometimes it is much easier to just forget about your mistakes and move on. If of course the pregnancy was an accident(childbirth did not work, Rape, etc.) I strongly respect your decision as I would then consider it at that point as well. But besides those couple of exceptions I believe that you should be regulated. Women wanting an abortion should definitely not be able to have more than one because there are many other ways to not get pregnant. You have to be responsible. Now that abortion has been legalized there is not a way to get rid of it without causing lots of controversy.
In Missouri Abortion is prohibited but it must be done by 2 licensed physicians and in a hospital if at Viability. Viability is the ability to live under certain circumstances. Parental consent is needed in Missouri and you must undergo counseling. The counseling period covers fetal pain and nothing more.(https://www.guttmacher.org/state-policy/explore/overview-abortion-laws) I believe the counseling should cover consequences of abortion and the possible things it can cause. I believe that abortion is a bad thing, I think it is morally wrong, but I think that if you "need" an abortion there should be stricter rules.
Sincerely,
Hailey
