Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration needs to be restricted in the United States.

Dear future President of the United States of America,

As I'm sure you're aware, America has a few problems that need to be addressed. Among this grocery list of problems, is Illegal Immigration. Illegal immigration has become a major problem in the U.S. This is a problem that desperately needs to be addressed. Even though America is a country of Immigrants, It's for the legal immigrants. Illegal immigration needs to be stopped because they are taking U.S citizen’s jobs, and they are receiving U.S benefits.

In 2014, the United States had an unemployment rate of 6.7%, which is approximately 21 billion people. Meanwhile an estimated 11.1 million illegal immigrants entered the country in 2014, according to Pew Research Center. Assuming all of those immigrants are working, that's potentially 11 million jobs for American citizens. Illegal immigrants have a better chance of getting a job for someone like a farmer because the employer doesn't have to obey the same laws as he would if were to employ American citizens. In America there is a minimum wage of $7.50, but for illegal immigrants there isn't a minimum wage so farmers can make them work for very low rates. The farmer also doesn't have to obey the labor laws since his employees aren't registered citizens, including breaks. For those reasons, farmers would rather hire illegal immigrants to save a little money.

Illegal immigrants also receive benefits from the government. They receive emergency medical care that is payed for by legal U.S citizens taxes. We are literally paying their medical bills. On top of that, Illegal immigrants can get on the welfare program. On average an illegal immigrant receives over $5,000 in welfare benefits. That's more than our unemployed get.

Some people think that we should erase the borders and make no one an immigrant, and let whoever wants to come to the U.S become a legal citizen. While this seems like a good idea, it's not logical. There are not enough jobs to support a wave of new people entering the country, and with even more people having to rely on welfare for their unemployment, the tax prices would rise dramatically, causing even more people to not be able to afford the necessities. The cycle would continue and leave majority of Americans relying on our already debted government.

So as the next President of The United States, I believe illegal immigration should be a major focus of yours to fix our country's economy. Do whatever it takes to make America great again, like build a wall. Fixing the immigration problem will help our economy by opening up more jobs and keeping our taxes lower.

Sincerely,

Tyler O’Bryan
